DANCE FORMULA
Rupert Hine, despite his demand as a producer, has managed to release 10 albums of his own over the years. The Brit, who has been behind the board for Howard Jones, Tina Turner and Chris De Burgh to name a few, has now created a band called Thinkman. With The Formula, Rupert hopes to erase the stigma people often attach to producer’s albums.

“My last three solo albums were met with some resistance from people who didn’t really give them a listen, but just assumed they were the work of a ‘successful’ producer who has made enough money to do his own record. The album began as another solo work for Hine, but as the Thinkman concept expanded he began to make a band out of the people from “mixed media backgrounds.”

The Thinkman syndicate project now includes the making of a non-musical feature film which Rupert describes as a media manipulation movie, along the lines of Network. The songs on The Formula deal with similar subject matter, but thankfully Hine balances weighty words with danceability.

“I love dance music and in a way l’ve never really allowed that to come out in my own music. The things I was trying to say on the last three LPs were very intense and I was concerned that it may have appeared I was taking things flippantly because they were so danceable. On this record I wasn’t really worried; I went for both.”
