Rupert's ground-breaking project in 1990 for the BBC with Kevin Godley, 'One World, One Voice', assembled 300 musicians worldwide to create the first global composition for mankind. In the form of a musical chain-letter, it travelled the world with Hine improvising its form on the fly. The grand spectacle was ultimately seen by more than 650,000,000 people in 26 countries on the same night! Rupert's collaborators on this world-changing project included Peter Gabriel, Sting, Bob Geldof, Chrissie Hynde, Dave Stewart, Milton Nascimento, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, The Kodo Drummers, Geoffrey Oryema. Salif Keita and the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra. "The world's best musicians perform and contribute to an original score in recording studios on location and around the world: a global composition to encourage people everywhere to tune in to new ways of thinking about the environment and the planet." From the original liner notes: The Music on this album was first played to over a billion people around the world in May 1990 - The climax of the 'One World' series on television. It is the ultimate global mix, the brainchild of Kevin Godley. Filmed and recorded on the road, it is a "chain tape", each of the musicians adding a new theme to the mix as Kevin's team toured the world. All profits will go to charities fighting environ- mental destruction and rising global poverty.
